The Tiny House movement has gone mainstream.

A tiny house is generally described as a 400 - 1000 sq ft home complete with kitchen and bathroom. These small homes built on trailer beds allow for a vagabond lifestyle. Makers are using the tiny house as a blank canvass to dream up the home essentials idealized.

The growing interest in small homes has been driven by the desire to live within a smaller carbon footprint by adapting a simpler more minimalist lifestyle. Made popular by the TV show TINY HOUSE NATION and Tiny House, the magazine.

As folks seek a simpler lifestyle, to consume less and perhaps even get off the grid these small portable homes are becoming less of a novelty and more of a sustainable first option.

Denver artist, Lauri Lynnxe Murphy, blogs about her experience building a tiny house here. Follow her online to learn from her progress.

She told Westword, "The bigger picture reason is the idea of changing the conversation…having conversations with people about sustainability."

Big conversations about little homes will provide a new vision for housing options to come. These petite homes have a huge future.
