Execution Is Everything
“The consciousness of self is the greatest hindrance to the proper execution of all action.“ -Bruce Lee
If your goals exist to retrieve acclaim from others, the time spent worrying about the approval of others will hinder your ability to grow and flow with your actions. It’s easy to get caught up in the worry that others will not approve of your actions for one reason or another. But it’s certainly easier to execute your plans and goals when you learn to silence that noise. If those thoughts creep in, I take a breathe and remember that the only approval I need is my own.
“Vision without action is a daydream. Action without vision is a nightmare.” - Japanese Proverb
Saying “execution is everything” is a little misleading. You must have a plan before you take action of course. But oftentimes folks get too bogged down with the obsessive planning of their success. Don’t distract from your achievements by constant planning without action. Instead, set time to plan, then execute that plan. Be sure to continually re-evaluate your process as you’ll learn plenty through execution. Your plans may change. Make time each week or month to regroup and adjust your plan accordingly.
All in all, it is important at the beginning of the year to remember that execution is incredibly important. I’m setting aside plenty of time to execute my work and personal goals this year. I’m working on a morning routine that will help me get in a flow each day as I prepare to take action. Sure, I spend plenty of time planning and goal-setting as well, but if I were unable to execute, there would be no point.
